インタビューに応じてくれたのは教育学部3年で、硬式野球部のエース候補でもある鈴木健。
理科Ⅰ類出身で、実はスマートスタディスタッフの後輩でもあります！
彼は宮城県の公立、仙台第一高校（偏差値は70前後）出身。彼の高校では毎年東大が数人程度だそう。なんと学年の約半分が浪人するそうです。
「東大なんて雲の上の存在だと思ってました。」
そう話す環境の中で
・なぜ東大を目指そうと思ったのか？
・東大を受験してみて一番大変だったことは？
・非進学校出身者ならではのエピソードは？
今回はそんな鈴木健にインタビューした内容をお伝えします。
なぜ、東大を目指そうと思ったのか？
スマートスタディスタッフ（以下：スマ）「久しぶり！今日は時間を作ってくれてありがとう。早速なんだけど、健ってそもそもなんで東大を目指そうと思ったの？」
鈴木健「元々東京六大学野球に憧れがあったからですね。」
スマ「なるほど、野球が一番の動機だったんだ！」
鈴木健「そうですね。自分中学でシニア（※）に入ってたんですよ。そこの監督さんに東京六大学野球を紹介してもらって。それがきっかけで六大で野球したいなって思うようになりました。
あとは少し自論になるんですけど、ああいう所にいると、高校野球とかで凄く大成する人っているじゃないですか。でも、あれって『大成するのが早かっただけ』って思うんですよね。っていうのも、野球の技術の最終到達地点は皆同じで、自分も頑張れば、時間はかかるかもしれないですけど、大学まで野球を続ければ、彼らと同じ水準まで辿り着けるんじゃないかって思ったんですよ。」
※シニア：中学の硬式野球のクラブチームのこと。全国から野球上級者が集まる。
スマ「なるほど。じゃあ中学のシニア時代から東大で野球をするために勉強してたって感じなのかな？」
鈴木健「いや、最初は早稲田志望でした。（笑）
でも高校3年生の時に、東大の野球部の監督がうちの高校に来て。
元々、地頭というか成績自体は割と良かったので、高校の先生からも目指せるんじゃないかってことで本格的に東大を目指すようになりましたね。」
スマ「ちなみにそれはいつ頃なの？」
鈴木健「高3のはじめです。」
スマ「意外と遅いんだね！ちなみに東大を目指す前って東大って言うとどんなイメージだった？」
鈴木健「雲の上の存在ですかね。笑
僕の高校は結構、東北大学を目指す人が多くて。東大志望がそもそも少なかったです。
それに学年の大体半分が浪人するってこともあって、ほぼ浪人覚悟で目指しました。」
スマ「東大を目指すってなった時の周囲からの反応はどんな感じだったの？」
鈴木健「元々成績自体は良かったのと、高校自体も生徒の目標を応援してくれる風潮だったので、普通に『頑張って〜』って感じでした。」
スマ「めっちゃ良い学校やね。そこから東大に向けて勉強を始めていったと思うんだけど、実際に受験してみて東大へのイメージって変わった？思ったより難しかった、とか。」
東大受験をしてみて思ったことは？
鈴木健「自分、現役時は予備校通ってなかったんで、それもあるかもしれないですけど、東大へのアプローチの仕方が全く分からなかったですね。
例えば、受験生時代は数学で『１対１対応の数学』をやってて、それはしっかり仕上げたんですけど、東大の問題ってなるとまたレベル違うじゃないですか。そこが一番キツかったと言うか、苦労した点ですね。
その後も数学はYoutubeで「Mathematic Monster」っていうのを見ながらやってたんですけど、
やっぱり偏りがあるというか。数列とか確率はめっちゃ得意になりましたけど、積分は苦手でできるようにならなかったですね。」
スマ「なるほどね。健は仙台一高から東大ってことだと思うんだけど、地方ならではの苦労とか、そういうのってあった？」
仙台から東大へ！何が一番大変だったのか？
鈴木健「あー。例えば、関東の学校とかだと『東大講座』みたいなのあるじゃないですか。うちの学校はそういうのなくて。『東北大講座』しかなかったんですよ。
実際、東北大の対策は詳しいけど、東大の対策は全く分からないって先生が多かったので、やっぱり解法のアプローチが分からないっていうのがありましたね。
あとは、周りに東大を目指す人がほぼいない、いても3人くらいなんで、レベル感が分からなかったです。」
スマ「レベル感っていうのは？」
鈴木健「基準ですね。例えば、東北大だったら『学年◯番以内に入っていれば大丈夫』とかそういう基準です。
僕自身高校ではいつも大体10番以内に入ってたんですけど、東大には手も足も出なかったので。
『どれくらい成績を取ればいいのか？』とか『自分に足りないものは何なのか？』って足りないものに気付けずに手探りだったって感じでした。」
スマ「なるほどね、オレも高校時代は周りに東大志望が全然いなかったから、基準が欲しかったっていうのはめちゃめちゃ分かるなあ。
健はそのあと予備校で浪人してから東大に合格したってことなんだけど、受かった今の自分から見て、勉強面で昔の自分に伝えたいこととかってある？もっとこういう風だったらなあっていうのでも！」
鈴木健「体系だったアプローチとか知識がやっぱり欲しかったなって思いますね。
さっき基準って言いましたけど、どれくらい成績とれば東大に受かるのかとかもそうですし、
この問題集解いた方がいいよとか、知識とかもそうですね。
東大に行くためにはこういう知識がまず必要で、これをどう使えばロジカルに解けるのか？っていう体系ですね。
高校時代は先生の質もまちまちで、体系だっていないので実戦で使えないこともあったりしました。
でも、浪人時代は体系だった知識とかアプローチを教えてもらえたことで、ロジカルに解けるようになっていきました。
現役時はE判定だった模試が、浪人時の夏の模試でいきなりA判定とか取れるようになって。」
スマ「それはすごい！」
鈴木健「あとはやっぱり採点してくれる人が欲しかったですね。
さっきも言いましたけど、高校では東北大の採点はできるけど、東大の採点をできる先生はほぼいなかったので。
現役時代にそういう環境があれば、結果も違ったのかななんて思ったりしますね。」
スマ「採点してもらえるのって確かに大きいよなあ。
めちゃめちゃ貴重な話聞けて良かった！忙しい中わざわざありがとうね！リーグ戦頑張って！」

インタビューをして思ったこと
鈴木健とインタビューをしてみて感じたことは
東大受験のリアルをもっとオープンにしていくことは重要だということです。
・採点をしてもらえる環境
・受験までのロードマップを気軽に聞ける環境
・大学に入ってからの進路も先輩から聞ける環境
進学校では当たり前になっている環境が私たちにはない。
しかし、そんな状況を少しでも変えていきたい。当たり前にしていきたい。
私たちは地方や非進学校でも、東大に当たり前に受かる。
そんな環境を作っていきたいと思っています。
