・毎日12時間以上自習スペースに籠もって勉強する
・毎日単語に1時間以上時間をかける
・学年が早いうちから過去問演習を始める
これらは受験勉強でよくやってしまいがちな間違いの典型例です。
しかし、最も深刻な問題に比べれば取るに足らない問題です。
その問題とは…
自分のレベルを把握しないまま勉強を続けてしまうことです。
ここに大きな問題があります。
自分のレベルを把握していないというのはつまり、
・自分がどのレベルの授業や参考書で学習ですべきか分かっていない
・受験までにそのペースで間に合うのか、おおよその予想がついていない
・周りのペースに合わせて勉強するだけになってしまっている
このような状態になっているということです。
例えば、本当はもっと数学の基礎の問題集を解かなければいけないレベルなのに
見栄を張っていきなり過去問対策を始めてしまったり。
そして、もし自分でそんな状態に気づくことのないまま
毎日10時間も勉強して、偽りの達成感を感じてしまっているとしたら…
どうなるでしょうか？
想像するだけでもちょっと怖いですよね。
このように、自分が今、どんな位置にいて何をすべきか分かっていないと
時間をいたずらに浪費することになったり、思ったより成績が伸びないということになってしまいます。
とはいえ「自分が今、どんな位置にいて何をすべきか、なかなか自分で把握するのは難しい」
そう感じているのではないでしょうか？
この問題を解決するにはどうすれば良いのか？
東大生が推薦する、「受験対策ピラミッド」とは？
それがこの「受験対策ピラミッド」です。
受験生のパフォーマンスはおおよそこのようなピラミッドのようなものになっています。
この図式を頭にしっかり入れてください。
全科目にこれは応用できるので、これを頭にいれることで、自分の現在地と何をすべきかのおおよその指針に迷うことはなくなると思います。
一番下は基礎力です。英語で言えば、英単語や英文法が、数学で言えば教科書の問題がこれに該当します。
二段目が応用力。基礎＋αなイメージです。英語で言えば、構文と呼ばれるやや複雑な和訳、数学ならチャートやフォーカス・ゴールドなどの網羅系参考書がこれに当たります。
三段目が実戦力。いわゆる受験生が解くような難しめの問題のことです。英語なら長文読解、数学であればレベルの高い問題集がこれに該当するでしょう。
最後がテクニック。過去問です。自分が受けたい大学で頻出の問題や出題の傾向、独自の解答の仕方など、いわゆる過去問演習がこれに該当します。
このピラミッドの大きさが大きいほど、受験生のレベルは高くなります。
例えば、東京大学を志望する生徒も、日本大学を志望する生徒もともに志望校の過去問を解いて対策すると思います。ここで注目していただきたいのが、どちらも最終段階の「テクニック」の部分に取り組んでいるということです。
しかし、一般的には、東大を志望する受験生の方が点数が高くなります。
なぜか？
それは両者のピラミッドの大きさが違うから。
東大を志望する受験生の方が受験における基礎力が高い、つまりピラミッドの裾野が広いため、
同じ過去問演習というフェーズにいても実力が大きく異なるのです。
ちなみに東大を志望する生徒の多くが慶應大や早稲田大を受験しますが、学部によっては早慶志望の受験生よりも東大受験生の「滑り止め」の合格率の方が高かったりします。
これも、東大受験生の方が、一般的に慶應大や早稲田大を志望する受験生よりもピラミッドが大きいから、という理由で説明することができます。
話はやや逸れましたが、
「各科目で自分はピラミッドのどの位置にいるんだろうか？」
それを考えながら自分で勉強を進めていくことが大事です。
過去問に早く取り組みたいと思ってしまったり、焦る気持ちがあるのはとても理解できますが、
先ほど見たようにピラミッドの裾野が広い人ほど、つまり基礎力が盤石な人ほど、
高い成績を上げることができるようになっています。
なので、焦らず一歩一歩、着実に基礎を固めていくことが結果的に自分の実力を最も効率的に伸ばすことになるのです。
